HACCP tends to focus on the unintentional or accidental adulteration of product where as TACCP and VACCP are more focused on the intentional adulteration, TACCP is used to identify the threat of behaviourally, economically or ideologically motivated adulterations and VACCP is used to identify the vulnerable points in the supply chain which may be a threat of an economically motivated Food Fraud and Food Defence is a serious issue, and has been highlighted as part of the additional requirements of FSSC 22000. There is an increased focus on ensuring food supply and food safety are resilient to fraud and adulteration, by certification bodies such as BRC, FSSC and food retailers. PAS 96 (2014), the public standard for protection of food from deliberate attack, outlines economically motivated adulteration, malicious contamination, extortion, espionage, and counterfeiting and cyber crime as examples of the types of threats that can occur. VACCP and TACCP are used together to combat issues of food fraud and contamination.
